When it comes to dating in today’s world, dating apps have been a game changer.

Social media and dating apps can be a great way to connect with people and meet potential partners. For LGBTQIA+ people, online platform can provide a safe space to connect with the community and share their identity, particularly where they might not feel safe or comfortable sharing their identity with other people in their lives.

Unfortunately, while dating apps can be a wonderful way to connect with community, we also know that experiences of sexual violence on dating apps are common.
An Australian study done in 2021 found that three out of four people had experienced dating app facilitated sexual violence. This study also showed that LGB+ women, LGB+ men and non-binary people experienced dating app facilitated sexual violence at higher rates than heterosexual men and women1.
