UQ Safer Communities is committed to ensuring that the work and study environment for all employees, students and volunteers is safe, respectful and free from all forms of gender-based violence.
UQ Safer Communities can provide support to victim/survivors of gender-based violence regardless of when or where the violence occurred. Students who are victim/ survivors of gender-based violence can receive support from UQ Safer Communities for the duration of their studies at UQ. Staff can receive case management support from UQ Safer Communities and can receive counselling support through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
UQ Safer Communities can provide students with:
- academic support (accessing extensions and special considerations);
- advice on housing and financial support;
- emotional support and counselling;
- information about how to report experiences of gender-based violence to the University and/or external organisations (e.g. police); and
- guidance for people supporting a victim/survivor of gender-based violence.
UQ Safer Communities can provide staff with:
- information about how to report experiences of gender-based violence to the University and/or external organisations (e.g. police); and
- guidance for people supporting a victim/survivor of gender-based violence.
