3. Compassionate Response to Disclosures

3.1 Offering a compassionate response
When someone discloses a sexual assault, 70% of the time it is to a friend or family member. This section provides information about how to respond compassionately to a disclosure. This topic outlines some commonly used phrases and comments that can actually create harm and discourage victim/survivors from seeking further support.

3.2 Listen Support Refer
Building on the last section, we outline a response model for you to follow when someone makes a disclosure, along with some specific phrases and supports you can offer. A final scenario is used to supplement these two sections, which steps you through some potential responses to a disclosure of violent behaviour.

3.3 Final Quiz
Test your knowledge with a short quiz that covers content from all three module topics. You’ll need to achieve 85% to pass the quiz and complete the module.
